A Shocking incident took place in Lanka, Assam where a woman sustained injuries in firing by forest official on October 29, 2024.
The incident took places at around noon on October 29, when the victim identified as Khudeja Khatun, along with seven women went to ventured into the Lumding forest area near Deben Gaon to collect firewood.
While gathering fire wood the group of women was allegedly targeted by patrolling forest officers from Nakhuti Forest Office, who opened fire on the womenโs group, without warning. Among the group of women Khudeja Khatun was hit by three times โ with bullets which injured on her head and back.
Following the incident the womanโs family rushed to the her and took her to Lanka Primary heath center, Assam. Due, to her injuries, she was later transferred to Hojai Civil Hospital for advance treatment.
On the same day, another fire incident took place where a class 6 student injured, in a firing.
According to information, the incident took place Nalbariโs Balitara area in which a forest guards from the Barpeta Forest Office fired at wild elephants but missed their target, hitting the boy instead.
An officials said, โAround 12 elephants were causing a disturbance in the Balitara area and damaging paddy crops. The forest team was working to clear the area when the incident occurred. Villagers did not allow the forest personnel to leave and police later intervened to rescue them.โ
The injured boy was taken immediately to Nalbari Medical College and Hospital, who sustained injuries by bullet on his leg. He is stated to be out of danger.
