Paris Olympic 2024: Vinesh Phogat is disqualified from the final match of Women’s Wrestling 50 kg Category due to overweight at the Paris Olympic 2024. She has found just 100gm overweight on the day of final match.

As she was disqualified from the match, so, she will not win any medal at the Olympic 2024, if disqualification stays. Despite the best effort on Tuesday night where she defeated Yusneylis Lopez by 5-0 to enter the wrestling final in Paris. But, on Wednesday she had found overweight by just 100gm.

Vinesh Phogat usually competes in the 53 kg category but she brought weight down to 50kg for Paris Olympic 2024.

Vinesh has tried hard to reduce her weight by skipping meals or running. Even she didn’t sleep entire night, hoping to fall in the category. The athlete, her coaches and her support staff also tried everything to reduce the weight.

The Indian official asked the Olympic Committee for more time, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

What did Indian Olympic Association said about Vinesh Phogat Disqualification?

Indian Olympic Association tweet by stating, “It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand.”

PM Modi Said via X, “Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India’s pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing. At the same time, I know that you epitomise resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you.”

On Tuesday, she gave her best effort by defeating the four-time world Olympic Champion Japanese wrestler Yui Susaki in the first match. After that match to qualified for the semi-final match, she defeated Oksana Livach of Ukraine. In the semifinal match she defeated  Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez to confirm a medal and become the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the final at the Olympics.
