The Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has issued a strict notice to banquet halls, hotels, restaurants, godowns, and all bulk waste generators (BWGs), warning them against dumping waste on roadsides, drains, and other public areas. The directive comes amid the ongoing festive and wedding season, during which SMC has observed a rise in improper waste disposal across the city.

According to the notice issued on December 3, 2025, SMC stated that several event venues and commercial establishments have found disposing of garbage in public spaces—a clear violation of municipal rules. Authorities have emphasized that such actions threaten public safety, environmental cleanliness, and civic order.

₹1 Lakh Penalty for Violators in Silchar

SMC has announced that any banquet hall, hotel, restaurant, godown, or other bulk waste generator caught dumping waste illegally will face a penalty of up to ₹1,00,000. In addition, legal action may also be initiated under the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022.

Mandatory Waste Disposal Through SMC

All establishments covered under this notice must contact the Silchar Municipal Corporation for timely cleaning and waste disposal services. User fees will applied as per existing norms. The SMC’s Enforcement Team may conduct surprise inspections at any time, and non-compliance will invite strict penalties.

Appeal for a Cleaner Silchar

The corporation urged business owners to cooperate in maintaining a clean, healthy, and environmentally responsible city, reinforcing the vision of a Swacch Sundor Silchar.

Residents and businesses asked to work together to ensure proper waste management, especially during peak event seasons.

For assistance or reporting violations, citizens may contact:

  • Panna Lal Deb, Municipal Inspector – 9101293214
  • Rajiv Chanda, City Project Officer, SBM (U) – 6002568070

The notice has circulated to concerned officials, including municipal inspectors, enforcement teams, license supervisors, market authorities, tax officers and waste management partners for immediate action.

SMC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining environmental hygiene and warned that any violation will dealt with firmly.
