On 12 June, a team of Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, arrested Silchar Government Employee for accepting bribe. The official, identified as Soumya Kanti Bhattacharjee Senior District Administrative Assistant of officer of the District Commissioner (DC), Silchar, Cachar.
Based on tip-off, a team of Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam launched an operation where they trapped red handed officer Soumya Kanti Bhattacharjee. He demanded Rs.12,000 to issues a land related No objection Certificate from complainant.
They trapped the Silchar Government employee when he accepted an advanced of Rs.2000 bribery. The anti-corruption team marked money with a special chemical. When it was tested, the chemical reaction confirmed the bribe transaction, making the liquid used to test Bhattacharjeeโs hand turn red.
Upon confirmed Soumya Kanti Bhattacharjee arrested immediately and now he will face legal proceedings. Soumya Kanti Bhattacharjee have the authority to issue the NOC upon verifying the necessary documents and collecting the standard application fees. But he demand for extra money which highlighted the ongoing corruption within the department that too within the office of the DC office.
The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam has announced the bribery news through their official social media platform. They stated, โToday @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed Saumyabrata Bhattacharjee, Sr. District Administrative Assistant of O/O the District Commissioner, Cachar, Silchar after he accepted bribe from the complainant in office for land related matter.
