Five people died after a car plunged into 70 foot gorge near Rngain on NH-40 Shillong-Dawki Road on Sunday. Poor visibility and lack of guard wall cited as causes.
As per reports, five people lost their lives after the car fell into a deep gorge along the Shillong-Dawki road at Rngain, located on National Highway 40, on Sunday night (August 3). The vehicle was heading towards Pynursla from Shillong when the driver reportedly lost control due to poor visibility and the absence of a roadside guard wall.
According to police reports, they received a call from a passer-by at 9:02 PM, informing them that a car had fallen into a gorge at Rngain. Investigations revealed that the vehicle, traveling from Laitlyngkot to Pynursla, veered off the road around 9 PM.
The wrecked vehicle, bearing registration number ML05-U-4926, was located and recovered along with the bodies of the five deceased victims. Police have since identified the victims using IDs found at the crash site and informed their families.
