Global music icon and American rapper Post Malone is set to perform live in Guwahati on December 8, 2025. The concert will be the first major international event under the Assam government’s newly launched “Concert Economy Policy,” which aims to boost tourism, youth engagement, and the overall cultural economy in the region. Concert Economy Policy is launched today, in cabinet meeting.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference held in Dergaon, Golaghat on Wednesday. “In today’s Cabinet, we have approved the Concert Economy Policy which we had previously discussed during the Budget session in the Assam Legislative Assembly,” said Sarma.

Taking inspiration from successful models in Gujarat and Meghalaya, Sarma pointed out that concerts have the potential to generate massive economic benefits. “There are many concerts going on in our neighbouring state Meghalaya. Recently, Coldplay performed in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, and the state generated ₹600 crore in revenue from that one concert,” he noted.
While Post Malone ’s team had earlier shown interest in hosting a concert in Shillong. This year Guwahati will now take center stage, giving Assam a chance to compete in the fast-growing concert economy. The December show expected to draw thousands of fans from across the Northeast and beyond, providing a major boost to Assam’s hospitality and tourism sectors.
“In December, there will be a mega concert in Guwahati, which will have healthy competition with our neighbouring state Meghalaya,” Sarma added, expressing confidence that Assam will soon be a preferred destination for global music acts.
As part of the Concert Economy Policy, the state government has identified Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat as priority cities for hosting international-standard concerts. Event organizers will receive full support from the government in terms of infrastructure, permissions and promotion.
