A major crackdown in Gujrat, where more than 1000 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh has detained by police from Surat and Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday, announced that over 1000 illegal immigrants has detained following combing operations in Ahmedabad and Surat.
Speaking from Surat, Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, called the midnight operation “a historic success” for the Gujarat Police and said the force had sent a strong warning to those living illegally in the state.
“A historic success has achieved in nabbing illegal Bangladeshis. As many as 890 illegal immigrants caught by the Ahmedabad police and 134 by the Surat police. This is the biggest operation of the Gujarat Police against people living illegally in the state,” Sanghavi told reporters.
At least 890 Bangladeshi immigrants detained from Ahmedabad and 134 from Surat, the major cities of Gujrat. The arrested individual, includes both man and woman.
Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi stated that the detained individual used fake documents obtained from West Bengal to stay in different part of India before coming to Gujrat.

He also said that many of the detained people, suspected of involvement in drug trafficking, human trafficking and sleeper cells linked to terror groups such as Al-Qaeda.

The Gujarat government is coordinating with the Centre and the Border Security Force (BSF) to expedite the deportation process. Further investigation is going on to uncover the networks behind the creation of fake documents.
Director General of Police Vikas Sahay added that police teams conducted simultaneous operations in Ahmedabad and Surat around 3 AM on Saturday. The detainees’ identities and nationalities are being verified through documentary and other evidence.
“Once their Bangladeshi nationality is confirmed, deportation will be carried out at the earliest,” Sahay assured.
