The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is all set to start through Nathula Pass in Sikkim from June 2025. After five years suspension caused by the 2017 Doklam standoff and the COVID-19 pandemic. The final preparation for the Yatra are underway with the Indo-China border route.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday (Apr 26, 2025).

Sunil Kumar, Labour In-charge for the ongoing construction work, confirmed that the renovation and reconstruction of the acclimatisation centres are expected to be finished within the next four to five days. He stated through ANI, “The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is going to start soon. Acclimatisation centres are being built along the route. Around 50 to 60 people will be accommodated at each centre.”

Two acclimatisation centres are being developed—one at 16th Mile (10,000 feet) and another near Hangu Lake along the Kupup Road (14,000 feet). Each centre will feature two five-bedded and two two-bedded buildings, along with a medical facility, kitchen, office, and other essential amenities for the pilgrims.

Kabi Lungchok MLA Thinley Tshering Bhutia thanked both the central and state governments for facilitating the reopening.

“Sikkim is a peaceful state with no history of terrorist activity, making this the safest route for Mansarovar pilgrims,” he stated.

Bhutia also assured that functional toilets and other necessary public amenities would be ready before the pilgrimage begins.
