India has announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, set to begin on June 20. The squad features a mix of fresh faces and experienced players, with B Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh earning their maiden Test call-ups. Karun Nair and Shardul Thakur return to the squad after a period of absence.
Jasprit Bumrah, who served as vice-captain during the recent Australia tour, was not considered for the captaincy due to workload management concerns.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is the vice-captain as he continues his return to international cricket. The batting unit includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, and Dhruv Jurel, who joins the squad as the second wicketkeeper.
India has selected a balanced mix of all-rounders, featuring Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. The pace attack comprises Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, and Arshdeep Singh. Kuldeep Yadav is the sole specialist spinner named in the squad.
