Dispur Police have arrested Doctor Jyotirmoy Lahkar (32), for allegedly running a large-scale fraud scheme involving fake government work orders for medical equipment in Guwahati. He lives in a resident of Bishnunagar on VIP Road, Guwahati.
The scam came into light after FIR lodged by Md Samim Ali, a resident of the Legacy Apartment in FA Ahmed Nagar. According to FIR, Jyotirmoy Lahkar, scam him of ₹4 lakh by falsely promising a medical equipment supply work order.
Despite of holding medical credentials, Dr. Lahkar is accused of forging fake government documents to create bogus supply contracts. He reportedly targeted doctors, healthcare professionals and entrepreneurs in Guwahati and Jorhat. He lured them into fake deals with the promise of lucrative government contracts for medical equipment.

Authorities have registered the case under Dispur Police Station. The Case No. 446/2025, citing various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):
- Section 61(2): Cheating
- Section 318(4): Criminal breach of trust
- Section 336(3): Forgery
- Section 316(2): Criminal conspiracy
According to police sources, several FIRs have been filed against Lahkar in other police stations across Assam. This incident shows the widespread nature of the scam, which has allegedly impacted multiple members of the medical and business community who unknowingly fell victim to the fraud. Further investigation is going on and the Authorities are currently working to identify additional victims and trace the financial trail of the scam.
