The Dehradun assault case has taken a troubling turn. Months after the incident, the family of a Tripura student is still waiting for justice. The victim, Anjel Chakma, was only 24. He died after a violent attack in Uttarakhand’s Selaqui area.

According to his father, Tarun Prasad Chakma, the assault happened on December 9, 2025. Anjel had reportedly objected to racial remarks directed at him and his younger brother. Soon after, he was brutally attacked. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on December 26.

However, even after four months, the main accused remains on the run. The grieving father has now raised serious questions about police action. He claims there has been little effort to track down the prime suspect.

Family Alleges Negligence, Accused Still Missing

The father, a BSF head constable, has alleged negligence in handling the Dehradun assault case. He said the FIR was not filed immediately. Instead, it was registered only after intervention from a Member of Parliament. This delay, he believes, allowed the accused to escape.

Moreover, the main suspect, identified as Yagyaraj Awasthi from Nepal, is believed to have fled across the border. While five accused have been arrested, including two minors, the key person is still absconding.

Police have issued a lookout circular. In addition, a Blue Corner notice has been initiated. Authorities are also working on a Red Corner notice. Still, the family feels these steps came too late.

Meanwhile, the emotional toll on the family is immense. Anjel was a bright student. He had secured an MBA placement with a promising salary package. He was set to begin his internship just a day after his death.

His father, who served in the BSF for three decades, expressed deep pain. “One son is gone, and the other is traumatised,” he said. The younger brother, who witnessed the incident, continues to struggle.

Although the family received compensation, they say justice matters more. Now, they are demanding swift action and accountability.
