D Gukesh made history by becoming the youngest World Champion in Chess in the 138-year history of chess. In the age of 18 he won the World Champion against China’s legend Ding Liren.
After Vishwanathan Anand, India has found its second World Champion in Chess is D Gukesh. During the World Chess Championship held in Singapore, he earned more than Rs 11 Crore in just 17 days.
In 14th and final game of the World Chess Championship 2024 D Gukesh defeat China’s Chess Player Ding Liren and won the title as the youngest World Chess Champion. He also created history by winning the match in 7.5-6.5. He played the final match with black pieces.
Gukesh also broke the record of Rsussian veteran Garry Kasparov, who won the World Championship title at the age of 22 years.

A video now goes viral where D Gukesh was 11 years old and asked by IM Sagar Shah of ChessBase India that what his ambition is. He said, “I want to become the youngest chess champion in the world” is thin boyish voice with the hint with a slight grin on his face, which is still too young to show any sign of a mustache.
After seven years of that proclamation, Gukesh has become the youngest chess champion in the world at 18, after defeating the China’s player Ding Liren.
How much D Gukesh earned from World Chess Championship?
Gukesh earned Rs 11.45 crore in prize money for becoming the world champion, while Ding Liren received Rs 9.75 crore. As per FIDE rules, finalists earn Rs 1.69 crore for each match win, with the remaining prize money shared between the two players.
Gukesh won three matches—the 3rd, 11th, and 14th—earning Rs 5.07 crore from those victories. His total winnings as world champion came to Rs 11.45 crore.
Media reports suggest Gukesh had about Rs 8.26 crore before his win, but his wealth has now crossed Rs 20 crore. His income mainly comes from chess prize money and advertising deals.

D Gukesh full name is Dommaraju. He was born in Chennai on 29 May 2006. His father Rajinikanth is an ENT Surgeon and his mother Padma is a microbiologist. He learned to play chess at the age of 7.
Gukesh earned the title of Grandmaster at the age of 12 and earned the third youngest grandmaster in the history of the chess. Gukesh, a chess prodigy, became the youngest player to surpass a FIDE rating of 2750 at just 17 years old. Earlier, he was the third-youngest to cross the 2700 mark at 16.
He won the individual gold medal and team gold medal at the 45th Chess Olympiad in the year 2024. He also won gold medal in individual as well team bronze medal in 44th Chess Olympiad in 2022.
At the junior level, Gukesh has won multiple gold medals in the World Youth Championship and the Asian Youth Chess Championship. In 2018 he won the World Youth Chess Championship in the under 12 categories. He has also won a silver medal at the Asian Games.
On January 15, 2019, at 12 years, 7 months, and 17 days old, Gukesh became the second-youngest grandmaster in history, just 17 days behind Sergey Karjakin. However, the record was later broken by Abhimanyu Mishra, making Gukesh the third-youngest.
