Amid heightened security concerns and intelligence inputs indicating possible infiltration attempts by extremist groups. The District Magistrate of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, IAS, has issued strict prohibitory orders along the Indo-Bangladesh border. This restriction is under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on June 17.
According to the order issued on June 17:
Night Movement Banned:
Movement of people between sunset and sunrise is banned for 2 months within a 1-km belt along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Cachar.
River Surma Restricted:
Boating and fishing at night in the Surma River and its high banks prohibited without prior permission.
Fishing Permission Process:
Residents must get fishing clearance from:
- The leaseholder
- Circle Officer of Katigorah
- Copies must sent to the District Magistrate and BSF Commandant (170th Battalion, Dholcherra)
Transport Ban of Essentials:
Movement of items like sugar, rice, wheat, oil, kerosene and salt banned between sunset and sunrise within 5 km of the border.
- Exceptions require approval from Circle Officer + Supply Officials
- Must be reported to District Magistrate and BSF
This preventive measure has taken in the public interest to curb illegal cross-border activities such as infiltration and smuggling of goods and cattle. The order takes immediate effect and will remain in force for two months, unless withdrawn or amended earlier.
