Indonesia island Sumatra is facing flash floods and landslide where at least 26 people died and 11 people were missing in these incidents. This report is according the officials on Monday. They also warned that the count of casualties may be rise.

The rescuers of the area has recovered many dead bodies as the water recedes following Flash floods.

The Flash Flood has submerged since Thursday in the nine district and cities in West Sumatra. Late on Friday, a large mudslide took place a which result river bursting its banks and devastating mountainside village in Pesisir Selatan district.

The National Disaster Management Agency of Indonesia said on Monday that relief effort are in trouble as the roads are blocked by thick mud and debris, power outrages and damage bridge.

Spokesman Abdul Muhari reported that more bodies have been found, mostly in the hardest-hit villages in Pesisir Selatan and the neighboring Padang Pariaman district, bringing the death toll to 26. Landslides buried at least 14 houses, injuring at least two villagers. Rescuers are still searching for 11 people.

Things Damaged by Flash Floods in Indonesia Sumatra

In West Sumatra province, over 37,000 houses and buildings are submerged, with three houses swept away by flash floods and 666 others damaged. Fajar Sukma, an official from West Sumatra’s disaster mitigation agency, mentioned that extreme weather has made rescue efforts difficult, with ongoing rain hindering operations. He expressed concern that the casualty count might rise as more reports come in.

Flash Floods also caused damaged to the infrastructure such as 26 bridge, 45 mosques and 25 schools. About 13 roads has been destroyed. Also Two irrigation units were destroyed, resulting in the submergence of 113 hectares of rice fields and 300 square meters of plantations, according to the agency.
