To decentralize governance, the Assam government is planning to set up a new Chief Minister’s (CM) Secretariat in Barak Valley.

Today, September 7, Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika announced that “Soon, a secretariat will also come up in Barak Valley.”

He stated via social media by a post, “The new Dibrugarh Chief Minister Secretariat was unthinkable during Congress rule. 15 years back it was something unimaginable. Over the year govt has taken numerous steps for self decentralisation. Soon, a secretariat will also come up in Barak Valley. District administrations are becoming more autonomy, sub districts are given lot of powers. Eventually there will be no need of coming to Dispur for most government related works.”

This announcement has come a day after CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly built CM ’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh, Assam on Friday.

The Dibrugarh secretariat will function four days a month, focusing on issues in nine Upper Assam districts: Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Majuli, Jorhat, and Golaghat.

Chief Minister Sarma said, “During our visits to the Dibrugarh CM office, we will spend three hours on each district, discussing important matters with Block Development Officers (BDOs), District Commissioners (DCs), MLAs, Circle Officers (COs), and police station officers to address the needs of the people.”
