A major disaster was prevented after Assam Rifles personnel recovered five live Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during a routine patrol along the Pengpalep–Lokchao axis in Manipur ’s Tengnoupal district.
The explosives were found on Friday when troops noticed an unusual underground structure while carrying out area domination operations. A closer search revealed a specially built bunker that had been used to hide the IEDs.
A Bomb Disposal Squad was rushed to the spot, and upon examination, experts confirmed that all five devices were active and posed a serious threat to civilians and security personnel.

The team safely neutralised the IEDs in a controlled operation, after which the entire area was sanitised to rule out any additional danger.
Security forces said the recovery has likely prevented a significant attack, especially at a time when the region continues to witness sporadic insurgent activity and heightened tension.
