In an incident that unfolded on a Sunday morning in Agyathuri, Kamrup District of Assam. A suspected drug peddler shot dead in a police encounter, while two others sustained gunshot injuries.
The unfolding events transpired when a three-member gang of alleged drug peddlers arrived in a Swift vehicle with registration AS 01 FQ 8535 in the specified area.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Special Task Force (STF) Assam, led by Additional SP STF Kalyan Pathak, promptly reached the scene.
They are attempting to stop the suspect vehicle. In response, the drug peddlers, who had arrived in the Swift vehicle, opened fire at the police team, prompting the law enforcement officers to retaliate.
The STF Assam successfully intercepted the vehicle, leading to the apprehension of the drug peddlers. The deceased individual has been identified as Salam, a notorious drug lord from Guwahati’s Hatigaon area, according to police sources.
In the course of the exchange of gunfire, two other associates of the alleged drug lord, namely Hiranya Thakuria and Faizuk Haque, sustained bullet injuries. And also were subsequently transported to TRB Civil Hospital in Kamrup for medical attention.
During the encounter, Police Constable Hima Das also suffered gunshot wounds. Simultaneously, two civilians identified as Noor Islam and Rebati Bharali sustained bullet injuries. And they currently receiving medical treatment at TRB Civil Hospital, as per emerging reports.
The incident underscores the inherent risks and challenges faced by law enforcement. In tackling organized crime, particularly in the realm of drug trafficking.
