A Jawan of Assam Police Battalion has been accused of allegedly attaempting to rape a minor girl of Hajo, Kamrup district of Assam.

The incident took place at Bagta village under Hajo, which triggering widespread outrage in the local community. Because a police who protect people, he become the accused.

As per the victim’s family, the minor was alone near her grandmother’s residence when Kalita allegedly approached her and attempted to sexually assault her.

The accused has been identified as Abani Kalita, a father of two, who is currently serving with the Assam Police Battalion.

“He tried to take advantage of the fact that she was alone. The incident has left our daughter traumatized,” the girl’s family said, demanding strict legal action against the accused.

The situation escalated further when the victim’s family alleged that Kalita’s wife confronted them aggressively when they raised the matter. According to them, she verbally abused and physically assaulted them and even threatened serious consequences to silence them and protect her husband.

Following the incident, the victim’s mother lodged a formal complaint at Hajo Police Station, prompting police to register a case and initiate an investigation into the matter.

The case has garnered attention from local right-wing groups such as the Hindu Jagaran Manch and Bajrang Dal, who have expressed solidarity with the victim’s family. Additionally, members of the local community have come forward in support, urging authorities to ensure a prompt, unbiased, and thorough investigation into the allegations.
