Popular Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap detained by the police in connection with a hit-and-run incident that led to the death of 21-year-old Samiul Haque, a student of Nalbari Polytechnic. The accident, which occurred on July 25, has sparked widespread protests and calls for accountability across Assam.

As per reports, Nandini Kashyap picked up by authorities on Tuesday night from a rehearsal venue at Rajdhani Theatre in North Guwahati. She then taken to the All Women Police Station in Panbazar for interrogation. While no formal arrest has made yet, police officials confirmed her detention as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to eyewitness reports, Samiul was hit by a speeding car allegedly driven by the actress. He then admitted to Apollo Hospital in a critical condition and passed away four days later from his injuries.

The All Assam Polytechnic Students’ Union (AAPSU) has lodged an FIR at Dispur Police Station, demanding strict action against the accused and a thorough investigation into the matter. The tragic loss of Samiul, who worked night shifts to support his family while pursuing his studies. It has deeply moved the public and intensified demands for justice.

In response to the controversy, Rajdhani Theatre, where Kashyap was under a two-year contract, has terminated its association with the actress citing the need to safeguard the institution’s reputation and ongoing performances.

Members of the Assamese film industry have also reacted. Notably, actor Ravi Sarma, who acted alongside Nandini Kashyap in the film Rudra, expressed condolences via social media:

“The tragic loss of Samiul Haque has deeply saddened me. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

Kashyap appeared in a supporting role in Rudra, which featured actors Ravi Sarma, Adil Hussain, Joy Kashyap, and Archita Agarwal.

Meanwhile, police have launched a comprehensive investigation, including the review of CCTV footage and forensic evidence. Although it remains unconfirmed if Kashyap was behind the wheel. Sources indicate that legal proceedings could be initiated soon based on the findings.

As the case unfolds, public sentiment continues to grow in support of Samiul’s family, with student organizations and civil society groups demanding swift justice and transparency from law enforcement authorities.
