Assam Police arrested 5 out of 6 accused for gang raped a 16 years old girl in Chirang district of Assam. The incident came into fore when a video of it surfaced on social media.
The incident took place on last month, at Runikhata village in Chirang’s Bengtol close to the Indo-Bhutan border. Accused has uploaded the video on social media after the incident, but it gained attention recently, which caused tension in the region.
Police sources said that the gang raped took place in the month of August, and among the six accused two of them are minors.
Chirang Superintendent of Police Akshit Garg, “The matter is still under investigation, so we cannot reveal much. Five people have been detained so far and we are probing this further.”
The victim’s family registered complaint after the video surfaced on social media at Runikhata police station. Based on the complaint police launched an investigation and arrested five, while while another suspect is still not caught.
This henieous crime came mid of the Kolkata and Dhing incident. People are protesting in demand of justice and woman safety. In Kolkata a doctor has been raped and murdered in the hospital on August 9, 2024. In Assam Dhing a 10 years old girl ganged raped while returning from tuition at home.
