On December 21, Assam police launched operation against child marriage across Assam state. 22 people has been arrested in Sribhumi (formerly known as Karimganj).
This is part of the state’s larger efforts to tackle the widespread problem of child marriages.
Sribhumi Police have reported 19 cases of child marriage during the third phases of action.
In Hailakandi district 21 people arrested in connection of child marriage. 6 people arrested in Cachar, among them 3 arrested from Silchar, 2 from Kalain and 1 from Dholai.
Police also informed and urged citizen to reports such incident of child marriage to support the campaign against illegal marriage of minors which is harmful social practice.
Assam CM on December 22, informed that โ#Assam continues its fight against child marriage. In Phase 3 operations launched on the night of Dec 21-22, 416 arrests were made and 335 cases registered. The arrested individuals will be produced in court today. We will continue to take bold steps to end this social evil!โ
