A bus with at least 40 passenger fell into 200-metre deep gorge near Uttarakhand ‘s Kupi in Ramnagar at the Pauri-Almora border on Monday. At least 28 people died and many feared trapped inside the bus after the accident.
As per officials, the bus with at least 40 passenger, lost control near Kupi village in Marchula, Uttarakhand and fall into a deep gorge.
Police and three State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team immediately arrived at the accident site in Marchulaโs Salt area and started rescue operation. SP of Almora Devendra Pincha said the death toll is expected to rise.
Almora District Disaster Management Officer Vineet Pal confirmed that 20 people have died in the accident.
Salt Sub-District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar said some passengers have been rescued and taken to the hospital.
The accident took place at around 9 am.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced Rs 4 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 1 lakh for the injured, as reported by ANI. He also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
He stated through CM, โVery sad news has been received about the casualties of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident that took place in Marchula of Almora district. The district administration has been instructed to carry out relief and rescue operations swiftly. The local administration and SDRF teams at the accident site are working rapidly to evacuate the injured and take them to the nearest health center for treatment. Instructions have also been given to airlift seriously injured passengers if required.โ
