Assam government has announced Ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the next kin of the four died man, who died in Umrangso coal Mine tragedy. The decision was taken by Assam cabinet on January 16, 2025.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated about the ex gratia on social media. He stated that, โThe #AssamCabinet expressed its deepest condolences on the loss of lives arising due to the Umrangso Mine Tragedy and has taken several important decisions to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.โ
The ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh will also be given to the Next Kin of the other five person who are not found yet. Whether they are to be found dead or live.

The other decision taken on Umrangso Mine Tragedy:
A judicial enquiry commission headed by Justice Anima Hazarika, former Judge of Gauhati High Court will be instituted to examine the matter and fix responsibility against responsible officers, individuals and institutions
A SOP will be framed regarding effecting blanket ban on Rat Hole Mining in the state
An SIT will be constituted to enquire into the entire incident on the basis of the FIR already registered on the matter. The SIT will be monitored by Retd Justice Anima Hazarika
The Mines and Minerals Department will take steps to close all existing rathole mines wherever they are found, in consultation with the central agencies
