Till now five workers is still missing at the Umrangso coal Mine, in Dima Hasao, Assam from where 4 workers dead body recovered. The officials has withdrew navy divers from Rescue operation.
On January 6, nine workers trapped inside the mine at 3 Kilo coal mine at Umrangso, Dima Hasao, which is 250 km away from Guwahati. 4 Coal mine workers dead boy has been recovered from the site. Five still remain trapped.
Dewatering of the 340-foot-deep quarry continued with specialized machines provided by ONGC and Coal India.
The water level, initially at 100 feet, has been gradually decreasing. On Monday, it receded by another 3 meters, according to an official. However, it is unclear when the water will be fully drained or when rescue operations inside the quarry can resume.
“Navy divers, who had been assisting in rescue efforts since January 7, have now been withdrawn from the site,” another official said.
Nine workers became trapped in the mine at Umrangso on January 6 after water suddenly flooded the quarry. So far, four bodies have been recovered, the official added.
“The chances of survival for the remaining miners appear slim as they remain trapped for the ninth day. However, rescue efforts are continuing,” he said.
Rescue teams are using nine pumps to remove water, with six additional pumps ready if needed. The operation involves the army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF, and the district administration.
An underwater remote-operated vehicle is also being used regularly to capture images of the trapped miners.
The first body was recovered on January 8, followed by three more on Saturday.
The chief minister stated that the mine had been abandoned 12 years ago and was under the Assam Mineral Development Corporation until three years ago. He also confirmed the arrest of the workers’ leader and said police investigations are ongoing.
