On October 17 night, two Assam Police lost their lives in a tragic road accident that took place on Patharkandi bypass, Karimganj, after their motorcycle collided with a truck.
The Road accident took place on NH 8 near Ashimganj, Patharkandi bypass in Karimganj. This incident occurred at around 8:30 pm. The police personnel, who died in the accident identified as Rajib Barman (age 38) and Badan Barman (age 42). They were riding motorcycle at that time on the road, where they crashed on the truck bearing number AS 1064 464. Both Rajib Barman and Badan Barman died on the spot.
According to police, the truck loaded with sand has stopped on the road with proper warning or light or flash indicator, which led the devastating accident. Both police personnel, who served at the 15th Assam Police Battalion of Eraligool, Karimganj. Rajib Barman was from Khilorbobd under Patharkandi Police station, Karimganj and Badan Barman was from Damcherra under Ratabari Police station, Cachar.
After the accident, local authorities including Patharkandi police went to the spot immediately. A local witnessed said, โThe accident happened because the truck was parked on the wrong side of the road without parking lights. This is a regular problem on the Patharkandi bypass.โ
Another local residents raised concerns on emergency service in the area by stating, โ There is no ambulance in Patharkandi community hospital.โ
He also stated that, โ We couldnโt even send the dead bodies to the hospital on time. Later officer-in-charge of Patharkandi Police used his vehicle to transport the bodies.โ
Further investigation is underway.
