On Thursday, 16 May Indian football Icon player Sunil Chhetri announced his retirement from international football match. He will take retirement after the FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Kuwait in Kolkata on June 6, concluding a remarkable two-decade journey.

He makes his announcement through a video shared across his social media platforms, the esteemed captain of the national team reflected on his illustrious career.

Presently, India holds the second spot in Group A with four points, trailing behind front-runners Qatar.

Presently he is now 39 years old.

The long-serving football national team captain announced his decision via a video he posted in his personal social media account.

He started by saying, โ€œThat one day I never forget an remember it quite often for the first time I played for my country.โ€

“I never thought individually these are the games I’ve played for the country, this is what I’ve done good, I’ve done bad. But, now I did it, this last one-and-a-half two months I did it. It felt very strange,” he said. “I did it because I was going towards the decision that the next game was going to be my last.”

“Every training that I do with the national team, I just want to enjoy. The game against Kuwait demands pressure, we need the three points to qualify for the next round. It’s hugely important for us,” he said.

“But in a strange way, I don’t feel the pressure because these 15-20 days with the national team and the match against Kuwait is the last,”

Sunil Chhetri was born in Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh on 3 August 1984 to a Napali Parents. He is an Indian Professional Football Player. He started his football career at the age of 17 years. His started his career from Delhi city in 2001. One year later he was selected to the team of Mohan Bagan because of his talent after he never looked backed. He had made his debut for national team in 2005, and scored 94 goals for the country.

He is the one of the best football player of India National Football team. As of now he is the captain of the team.

Additionally, he holds the third position in the list of active players with the highest number of goals (94 in 150 match), behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the first and Lionel Messi in the second.
