A shopkeeper arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13 years old minor girl of class 8 outside her school in Lailapur, Cachar. He attempted raped the girl. Father of the girl filed FIR against the shopkeeper.
The shopkeeper, identified as Mayajul Ali Laskar of Hawaithang, who is a secretary of the Village Defence Party (VDP) and also a member of the BJP, Cachar. When she went to shop to buy a pen the shopkeeper forced inside the shop and touched her inappropriately. She bites the accused hand and somehow able to save her life while running away from home.
According to information, the incident took place on September 3, 2024 in Lailapur, Cachar, when she was returning home after school. When she was returning school she went to shop outside the school to buy a pen, the shopkeeper asker her to enter the shop and take the pen. Innocently she entered the shop, took the pen when she about to exit the shop. When she was to leave the accused suddenly graved her and covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming.
The accused shopkeeper then dragged her to his bedroom and allegedly attempt to rape the girl. In a desperate fight the girl managed to escape by biting his hand and run home.
She was traumatized after the incident and stopped to went school for several days. The girls was unaware of the incident and asked why didn’t she go to school but she didn’t disclose the real reason and made some other excuses. Unsatisfied of the excuses her father insisted that she would go to school.
After six days of the incident, she resumed her classes. On September 10, the accused, Mayajul Ali Laskar once again signaled her towards shop but she ignored and again next day she missed school again. On September 12, when she was on her way to school the accused Mayajul intercepted her near bamboo grove and threatened her by stating, “What happened between us should remain secret. If you tell anyone, I’ll share details and videos on the internet.”
That day at school, she couldn’t focus in class. When her science teacher noticed and asked what was wrong, she just shook her head and stayed quiet. After class, she gathered the courage to talk to the teacher and told her everything that had happened. Concerned, the teacher immediately informed the headmaster, Zia Uddin Laskar. Realizing how serious the situation was, the headmaster called her father, who rushed to the school and heard the story from his daughter for the first time. As a result, an FIR filed yesterday (September 15) at the Lailapur Police Patrol Post, Cachar.
The headmaster of the school broke into tears by revealing the incident. He said, that at around around 2.20 pm (on September 12) he was in the library room when the science teacher of the school Manab Bhumiij informed that a student of class 8 of school had been the victim of torture and sexual harassment by a shopkeeper. She has been irregular in class since after that incident. She is a very good student of the school. The headmaster along with the science teacher asked her if the matter was true. She started crying but when they consoled her, she revealed the disturbing details and that the shopkeeper tried outraging her modesty. This has pained all the teachers present there and started crying. Later headmaster informed her father, who came to the school and decided that an FIR needs to be filed.
The headmaster also said, “If a girl can’t be safe going to school near her home, what can be more shameful than that? The locals and the girls won’t forgive us if the police don’t take drastic action and the accused is not punished”.
