Today, 30 May, 2024, Section 144 has imposed in the area of Silchar Bethukandi Dyke area. They imposed the section to prevent potential flood-related disaster. The dyke has been undergoing repair work. Residents of Silchar no need to panic as the water has stopped entering Mahisha Beel.
The work of the dyke has done almost. The Barak River has already crossed the dander level i.e. 19:83 at around 2.40 pm on 29 May, 2024.
The District Magistrate Rohan Kumar Jha today ordered Section 144 in the area of Bethukandi Sluice Gate area in Silchar. This decision has taken because in the year 2022 some of the miscreants has intentionally breached the dyke of Bethukandi. To prevent such incidents from having again they imposed Section 144. Under this section people gatherings of five or more people prohibited strictly near Bethukandi sluice gate on the Bethukandi dyke.

The people who attempt to damage the Bethukandi dyke will be treated as very serious offence under harshest penalties under the law. Due to the urgent situation, the order has issued without hearing and will remain in force until further notice.
