The Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik passed away at the age of 79 years a prolonged illness at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi on Tuesday.
According to reports, he had been undergoing treatment at around 1 PM on 5 August, 2025.
Satyapal Malik, has been in critical condition at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on May 2025. Hospital sources confirmed he is suffering from a severe urinary tract infection and kidney failure-related complications, and has been placed in the ICU for intensive care.
Malik served as the last Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019, during which the abrogation of Article 370 took place on August 5, 2019—a landmark and controversial move that led to the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories: Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
He later held gubernatorial positions in Bihar and Meghalaya.
Known for his outspoken views, Malik became a vocal critic of the BJP, the party he was once closely associated with. He drew national attention by publicly alleging security lapses in the 2019 Pulwama attack and by raising concerns over corruption in the Kiru Hydropower Project.
