An Air India flight San Francisco to Mumbai faced technical problems, causing delays and deplaned passenger for inconvenience.
On Tuesday, Air India flight AI180 from San Francisco to Mumbai, a Boeing 777-200LR, landed on time at Kolkata airport at 12:45 AM for a scheduled stop. However, a technical snag in the left engine delayed its departure. At around 5:20 AM, an announcement was made asking all passengers to deplane for safety reasons. The aircraft is currently under inspection.

A day earlier, on Monday, flight AI315 from Hong Kong to Delhi, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had to return to Hong Kong airport shortly after takeoff due to a suspected technical issue. The flight had originally taken off at 12:16 PM local time after a delay of over 3 hours. Thankfully, it landed safely, and all passengers were safely disembarked. The plane is now undergoing safety checks.
Air India said, “AI315 operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 16 June 2025 returned to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue. The flight landed safely at Hong Kong and is undergoing checks as a matter of abundant precaution. Alternative arrangements have been planned to fly the passengers to their destination Delhi at the earliest”.
Also added, “We are providing all necessary on-ground assistance to the passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption,”.
Air India confirmed both incidents and stated that alternative travel arrangements are being made for the affected passengers. The airline is also providing on-ground support to reduce inconvenience.
These incidents come just days after a tragic crash on June 12, when a London-bound Air India Dreamliner crashed near a medical college in Ahmedabad, killing over 270 people.
