Pork Packet Found Outside Mosque in Panjabari, Guwahati

A serious incident took place in Guwahati, a packet containing pork found outside a mosque in Panjabari on Sunday morning.

According to reports, the incident took place in at the mosque located on Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Path in Puran Basti, under Dispur Police Station.

Ae per sources, an unknown individuals placed a transparent plastic packet at the mosque’s entrance. Inside was raw pork and a handwritten note in Assamese and English. The note, signed “Plabita Das,” read: “Translation: You got me pregnant. Now you eat pork,” and also included a mobile number. The word “PORK” written clearly on the packet.

Following the recovery of the packet Dispur police reached the site and started investigation. The suspicious packet has seized and started forensic investigation. The mobile number mentioned in the note is being verified.

The incident just days after when CM Himanat Biswa Sarma warned against acts that could hurt religious sentiments. Just days ago, he said that throwing beef near temples could lead to retaliation by placing pork near mosques — urging all citizens to avoid such provocative actions.

He stated, “We have to stop these people from this business of throwing beef, else others will start placing pork at different places. We don’t want any of this to happen.”

He also added, ““Those who are doing it should understand that if Hindus don’t like one form of meat, the Muslims also do not prefer another type… If beef thrown in front of temples and namghars, what will they do if pork is placed in front of mosques?”

The Chief Minister had also revealed that over 60 people arrested during Bakrid for illegal cattle slaughter and trying to provoke communal tension, especially in the Dhubri district.

After the incident of the pork, police increased security concern around all religious sites of Guwahati. Further investigation is going on.
