Police Rescue Kidnapped Man in Jirighat, Assam-Manipur Border

On October 21, 2024 police have successfully recovered Md Saiyur Uddin, who had gone missing after being kidnapped by unidentified individuals. Uddin was found in Bakkal area, within the jurisdiction of Jirighat Police Station. His family has been informed of his safe return.

Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Numal Mahatta confirmed the recovery, explaining that a coordinated search operation involving both Cachar and Jiribam police led to Uddin’s rescue. “Although the victim is safe, the suspects managed to escape by taking advantage of the difficult terrain,” Mahatta said.

According to reports, the incident began when Uddin, a resident of Pachim Kashimpur Balijuri in Jiribam, Manipur, was abducted while working in a remote area near A Kapakhal.
After being kidnapped the police were notified around 4:00 PM on that day, which leads an immediate response. Due to limited road access in the region, teams managed to deploy by boat in the area to assist in the search.

Jirighat

Following the abduction, both local and paramilitary forces ramped up their search efforts along the Assam-Manipur border. SP Numal Mahatta highlighted that collaboration with Jiribam police was crucial in ensuring Uddin’s safe return.

While police has successfully rescue Md Saiyur Uddin, but the kidnappersflee from the scene. Further is going on to arrest the kidnappers and a case has been registered at Jirighat Police Station. Authorities suspect that the perpetrators are from Jiribam, Manipur and efforts to track them down are ongoing.
