The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana released by the government this year. The scheme was announced by the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Scheme a campaign has started to install solar panels in 1 crore houses of the country to save the middle and poor class families from expensive electricity bills. The PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme campaign will help the people in maintaining the balance of the environment by promoting the Green Energy Mission. On February 1, 2024 Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced the introduction of rooftop solar and free electricity scheme means PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Scheme while presenting the budget.
Objective of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Through PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Scheme, 300 units of free electricity will be pr ovided every month to 1 crore houses. Through this scheme, 1 crore families will save Rs 15000 crore annually and they will earn income by selling the surplus power to the electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) of their area. Will be able to earn. This scheme will increase the facility of electrical vehicle charging and will create a lot of opportunities for entrepreneurs through solar panel supply and installation. Along with this, ample employment opportunities will be created for the youth with technical skills in solar panel manufacturing, installation and maintenance.
PM Narendra Modi said, “In order for sustainable development and people’s well being, we are launching PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This project with an investment over 75,000 crores, aims to light up 1 crore household by providing upto 300 units of free electricity bills in every month.”

Eligibility for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

- People who are resident of India only they will be eligible for the scheme.
- The age of the applicant should be more than 18 years.
- Only the middle class and poor class.
- This scheme is valid for people of every caste.
- Aadhaar card linked to the applicant bank account required to participate in the scheme.

How to apply online for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
First of all go to the official website – pmsuryaghar.gov.in
Click on the option of Apply For Rooftop Solar on the home page.
First of all you will have to register for which you will need these details: State, Electricity Distribution Company, Electricity Mobile Number, Email and Consumer Number.
After that apply as per the given steps.
Step 1
Register in the portal with the following
Select your state
Select your electricity distribution company
Enter your electricity consumer number
Please enter the Mobile-Number, enter email
Step 2
Login with consumer number and mobile number
Apply for rooftop solar as per form
Step 3
Await feasibility approval from Discom. Once you get feasibility approval get the plant installed from any registered vendor in your Discom
Step 4
Once installation is complete, submit plant details and apply for net meter
Step 5
After installation of net meter and inspection by DISCOM, they will generate commissioning certificate from the portal
Step 6
Once you get the commissioning report. Submit bank account details and a canceled check through the portal. You will get yours within 30 days.
