In a significant step towards to make Passport services more accessible for citizens in remote or rural areas, Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, Joint Secretary of the Passport Seva Project and Chief Passport Officer at the Ministry of External Affairs, officially launched the Passport Seva Mobile Van Service at Gauhati University.
This is a part of initiative of the Ministry’s ongoing Passport Seva Aapke Dwar programme, which aims to ensure last-mile delivery passport services in all areas of North East region of India.
The newly Passport Seva Mobile Van is set to travel to the remote villages and town to bring essential passport application from the doorsteps of citizens. This step is initiated that applicants is no longer need to visit Passport Seva Kendra for submitting Passport application from long distance.
At present, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Guwahati manages six Passport Seva Kendras and 19 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras across six North Eastern states. The mobile van aims to bridge the service gap by ensuring last-mile delivery of passport services in underserved areas.

Describing the mobile van as a “one-stop shop”, Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, Joint Secretary of the Passport Seva Project and Chief Passport Officer, said that all procedures—from document submission to biometric verification—can completed inside the van itself. He added that each of the 37 RPOs across India has received one mobile van so far, with further expansion planned in the coming phases.
The launch event at Gauhati University attended by senior officials from RPO Guwahati, TCS, and the university administration.
