Nagaon police has arrested two young men for pretending to be close to police officers and cheating people for money.
The arrested men identified as Baputi (also known as Rekib Ahmed) and Riyaz Ahmed from Panikhaiti. The two were caught by Nonoi Police Station after complaints were made about their scams. They had been promising to help people with police cases in exchange for money, claiming they had strong connections with law enforcement.
Police said the men had been doing this for a while, tricking innocent people by promising favors or relief in legal matters. Their lies were finally exposed after several people came forward.
A case has registered against them (No. 492/25) and both are now in jail. Police have warned people to stay alert and report any similar scams.
The investigation is still going on, and police are checking if more people were cheated by them.
