On 23 January a Myanmar Army plane crash in Lengpui airport, Mizoram in morning. As per reports 14 people was in the plane, including the pilot. At least six Burmese army officials injured. The injured army admitted to the Lengpui Hospital.
Mizoram DIG said, โSix people were injured after a plane from the Burmese Army crashed at Lengpui airport. 14 people were on board with the pilot. The injured admitted to the Lengpui hospital.”
The Burmese army plane arrived in Mizoram to take back their soldier who crossed the border and entered India last week after engaging in gunfire with an ethnic insurgent group Arakan Army.
According to the information received, it crashed after overshooting the airport’s tabletop runway while landing. The impact of the catastrophe caused the plane to split in two.
184 Myanmarese soldiers sent Home before Myanmar Army Plane Crash
Assam rifles announced 184 Myanmarese soldiers, who entered Mizoram after clashes with an ethnic insurgent group, were sent back to Myanmar on Monday. The soldiers fled to Mizoram from Bandukbanga hamlet in southern Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district after their camp was attacked by rebels from the ‘Arakan Army’ on January 17.
Assam Rifles officials disclosed that a total of 276 Myanmarese soldiers had entered Mizoram last week. The majority, 184 soldiers, flown back to Myanmar on military planes from Lengpui airport near Aizawl to Sittwe in Rakhine state. The remaining 92 soldiers scheduled for deportation on the Tuesday.
Myanmar army seek refugee in Mizoram
On 17 January, Myanmar army after reaching Bandukbanga engaged with Assam Rifles when their camp attacked by rebels. Seeking refuge, they entered Mizoram and accommodated in the Assam Rifles camp in Parva. Most of them later relocated to Lunglei for surveillance.
The soldiers, led by a colonel, consisted of 36 officers and 240 lower-ranking personnel. Throughout their stay, Assam Rifles closely monitored their activities. The decision to return the soldiers to Myanmar made as part of diplomatic efforts between the two countries.
This incident coincided with an Assam Rifles official’s announcement about the return of 184 soldiers from Myanmar who had fled to Mizoram last week. The soldiers had engaged in gunfire with an ethnic insurgent organization, leading to their temporary relocation to Mizoram.
