Mumbai Police after two misidentifications lastly arrest the main accused in actor Saif Ali Khan stabbing case after nearly three-day long man hunt in the wee hours of Sunday.

Police arrest Shariful Islam Shehzad (30 years old), a Bangladeshi national, who entered India illegally.

DCP Zone 9 Dikshit Gedam said that the arrested the accused Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, used to live in Mumbai using fake name as Vijay Das. He likely entered India illegally from Bangladesh.

He stated that the prime accused is a Bangladeshi and came to Mumbai 5-6 months ago. He also added, โ€œHe stayed in Mumbai for a few days and then in the vicinity of Mumbai. The accused used to work in a housekeeping agency.โ€

How Police Tracked the Accused of Saif Ali Khan Stabbing case?

Mumbai police had formed 30 teams to track down the accused. They regularly reviewed the CCTV footage from the Bandra building where Saif Ali Khan lives with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and their sons. The suspect was seen leaving the premises after the Saif Ali Khan attack and robbery attempt, which left the actor seriously injured. Police then examined hours of CCTV footage from across the city. During this process, they found footage from a camera in DN Nagar, Andheri, showing the suspect getting off a bike. They used the bikeโ€™s number to trace the accused.

Meanwhile, based on local intelligence, the police focused on a rented house in Koliwada, Worli, where the accused was staying with three others, according to police sources reported in NDTV. A police team visited the house, questioned the residents and gathered the suspect’s identity and other details. They also obtained his phone number and used it to track his location.

The police eventually found the accused hiding in a bushy area along a deserted road in Thane. They surrounded him from all sides and arrested him.

Police also did not find any kind of Indian document with him. But police have found evidence that established he is a Bangladeshi.

What was the incident?

According to police reports, on January 16, an unidentified miscreants broke into Saif Ali Khan Bandra House at around 2:30 am and confronted a member of the household staff. When Saif Ali Khan tried to calm the situation, the intruder attacked him, causing six injuries. Two of the injuries were serious, with one dangerously close to his spine.

He then immediately rushed to Hospital for treatment.
