The father of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the 24-year-old Indore woman accused of plotting her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has strongly refuted the police allegations. He claimed it fabricated and called for a CBI investigation into the case, alleging foul play and misinformation by the Meghalaya Police.

Speaking to the media after Sonam’s arrest, Devi Singh, her father, said, “My daughter is innocent. She cannot do this. I trust her completely. She cannot do this. They got married with the consent of both families. The Meghalaya government has been lying from the beginning”.

According to Singh, Sonam Raghuvanshi reached a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on her own and contacted her brother before being taken into custody. He emphasized that she was not caught in Meghalaya, contrary to what some reports claim. The father stated, “She was not arrested in Meghalaya. She came to Ghazipur by herself. I haven’t been able to speak to her yet. Why would my daughter kill her husband? The Meghalaya Police is making up stories.”

The case has gained national attention ever since Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was recovered on June 2 from a gorge in Sohra (also known as Cherrapunjee). The couple had reportedly gone missing on May 23, just days into their honeymoon trip.

Meghalaya Police alleged that Sonam Raghuvanshi had in a secret relationship with a man named Raj Kushwaha

A new twist emerged when the Meghalaya Police alleged that Sonam had in a secret relationship with a man named Raj Kushwaha and had conspired with him to eliminate her husband. Police sources claimed she hired contract killers from Madhya Pradesh, using the honeymoon as a cover to execute the murder.

Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang stated that Sonam was “actively involved in plotting the murder”, and that the investigation is backed by solid digital and witness evidence. The scooter they had rented during their trip was later found abandoned in Sohrarim, with the ignition key still intact.

So far, three have been arrested Vicky Thakur, Akash, and Anand and police are on the lookout for a fourth suspect. The case took a decisive turn when a local tour guide reported that the couple was last seen with three unidentified men before disappearing.

Despite these allegations, Sonam’s family is standing firmly by her side. They are planning to approach Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry. Singh asserted, “If a fair probe is conducted, even the Meghalaya police officials will be behind bars.”

As of now, Sonam is under safe custody at Nandganj Police Station in Ghazipur, with transit procedures underway. The case continues to develop, with the public and authorities awaiting clearer answers in what is being described as a chilling tale of love, betrayal, and murder.
