Massive protest Erupts in South Sribhumi (Karimganj) after allegations of errors in the draft voter list of Shribhumi Panchayat came into light on Tuesday. The protest is Led by MLA Siddique Ahmed, around a hundred people gathered at the dharna shed, shouting slogans against the irregularities.
Assam Election commission has released draft electoral list for the year 2024 & 2025 panchayat election. In this draft electoral list approximately 50,000 names including MLA Siddique Ahmed was missing. MLA MLA Siddique Ahmed later submitted a memorandum to the DC of Sribhumi, claimed that around 50,000 names, including his own, were unfairly removed from the voter list.
He highlighted the issues as alarming, such as entire polling stations being assigned to just one voter. Ahmed also claimed that these problems were planned at the district level under specific instructions.
The MLA demanded that the discrepancies be fixed immediately and cautioned that if the issue was not resolved, there would be large-scale protests across the district, stressing the seriousness of the situation.
