Dhubri police has arrested the man who throwed a packet of pig meat means pork at a mosque in Panjabari, Guwahati on Tuesday night.
The accused identified as Mridupaban Pathak, a residents of Barpeta. He was arrested from Barpeta and he confessed to committing the act, according to police. According to officials, the act was carried out with the apparent intention of framing a girl who had earlier rejected his romantic advances.
Police sources revealed that Pathak had proposed to the girl, and after facing rejection, he allegedly attempted to frame her by connecting her name to an act aimed at offending religious sentiments.
The entire incident was caught on CCTV, which enabled police to quickly identify and arrest him.
Authorities have strongly condemned the act, calling it a deliberate attempt to exploit personal grievances to stir communal discord.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigation is going on.
On Sunday morning, an unknown individuals placed a transparent plastic packet at the mosque’s entrance in Guwahati. Inside was raw pork and a handwritten note in Assamese and English. The note, signed “Plabita Das,” read: “Translation: You got me pregnant. Now you eat pork,” and also included a mobile number. The word “PORK” written clearly on the packet. Soon after the police started investigating the case and today the man arrested.
