A shocking case came into light, where a man filed an FIR against a Silchar Doctor of amputating his entire genitalia without his consent or medical justification.
The doctor identified as Dr Eden Sinha, a Laparoscopic Surgeon of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He operated on a patient on May 19, 2025 without receiving a biopsy result and even without the consent of the patient.
Patient Claims Minor Infection Led to Life-Altering Surgery
The victim, Atikur Rahman, visited Dr Eden Sinha at RE Hospital in Ghungoor, Silchar, on May 19, complaining of a minor urinary tract infection. After a brief consultation, he was admitted the same evening. Rahman alleges that all initial medical tests returned normal results, yet Dr Sinha recommended a biopsy, which he agreed to.
Conflicting Biopsy Timeline Raises Serious Questions
While Rahman was allegedly told a biopsy would be performed on May 19, the histopathology report which states that the biopsy specimen was collected on June 24 and received at the lab on June 26, with the final diagnosis issued on June 29. The report confirmed moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma (usual type).
However, Rahman claims the genital amputation surgery was performed on May 19 itself, nearly 10 days before the biopsy report was even available.
The patient said he was under that only a small tissue sample would be taken and that he’d be discharged the same night. Instead, he was administered anesthesia, and upon regaining consciousness, found that a catheter had been inserted.
“Three days later, when the bandages were removed, I discovered my entire private part was gone,” Rahman said in a statement to the press.
He also revealed that his wife, upon seeing a graphic image related to the surgery, fainted and had to be admitted to the ICU for three days.
Silchar Doctor Unreachable, Allegedly Issued Threats
Post-surgery, Rahman says Dr Sinha became unreachable, and hospital staff informed him that the doctor had left for Mumbai. When he finally contacted the surgeon, he claims to have been threatened.
Currently, Rahman lives with a permanent catheter, is in constant pain, and has been rejected by other doctors who fear complications due to the alleged malpractice.
“This man has destroyed my life,” Rahman wrote in his FIR filed on July 1 at the Ghungoor Police Outpost.
He added, “I have a wife and three small children. I can no longer work or move. Every doctor I go to refuses to treat me. I fear I may die.”
This incident has sent shockwaves across the Barak Valley and neighboring regions such as Dima Hasao, Jiribam, Tripura, and Mizoram, for whom Silchar is a vital healthcare hub.
While the rapid growth of private hospitals and nursing homes in Silchar has improved access to healthcare, this case has raised serious concerns about ethical standards and regulatory oversight in private medical practices.
Investigation Underway
The Cachar Police have launched an investigation into the incident based on Rahman’s FIR. Dr Eden Sinha, an MS, MBBS general and laparoscopic surgeon affiliated with Silchar Medical College, has been named as the sole accused.
