In a shocking incident, a man dead body discovered early Tuesday morning in a pond located in Nahira village near Guwahati, in South Kamrup with his leg and hands and neck tied with a rope. This is strongly suspected of possible murder.
According to reports, the dead body was found in Kuwa Puhuri, a pong in Nahira village under Palashibari subdivision. When the news came into fore, villagers gathered at the site in large number. Some identified deceased as Anand Kalita, a resident of the same village.
A police team from Bijoynagar Police Station soon reached the spot, retrieved the body, and began a preliminary investigation. The dead body were then sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
According to family members, Anand had dinner at home the night before and showed no signs of distress. His sudden and mysterious death has left the village in deep shock.
Given the condition in which the body was found, many believe it is unlikely to be a case of suicide. The manner in which the limbs were bound has led villagers to strongly suspect murder.
Police have launched a detailed investigation and are questioning people from the locality to gather leads. The motive behind the suspected murder is yet to be ascertained.
