In a significant development, Cachar police arrested Sharif Hossain (36) with an illegal firearm and ammunition during a midnight search operation based on a tip-off.
Based on tip off, Cachar police carried out a raid in at 12:30 AM on July 29, Ward No. 6, Barak River area (Hamarkhowalin Sawmill), Lakhipur, Cachar at Sharif’s residence. The operation was conducted in the presence of local witnesses to ensure transparency.
During the search, police recovered:
- A factory-made black pistol
- A magazine loaded with five live rounds
- An Android mobile handset
After operation police arrest Sharif Hossain, son of Ala Uddin Mia.
Authorities suspect his involvement in suspicious activities related to the illegal wood and bamboo trade in the Barak River area.
The police said that further investigation and legal proceedings are underway in this regard.
