Murder Reported in PK Road Area of Lala
The incident took place on the morning of Sunday, June 15, in the PK Road locality of Lala town. According to reports, Mimodweep Nath, the accused, took his 55-year-old mother, Manju Rani Nath, to a nearby pond around 8 AM following a reported family argument.
Allegations of Drowning and Disturbing Behavior
Witness accounts suggest that Mimodweep pushed his mother into the water and held her underwater by standing over her body. His younger brother, sensing something was terribly wrong, raised an alarm and informed the neighbors.
Locals Find Accused Standing Over Mother’s Body
When residents reached the pond, they found Mimodweep Nath standing silently in the water, with his mother submerged beneath him. Despite being questioned, he did not speak or react. The scene left witnesses horrified and confused.
Hailakandi Police Arrive and Recover Mother’s Lifeless Body
Local police were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene. Officers pulled Mimodweep out of the pond, after which Manju Rani Nath’s lifeless body floated to the surface. She was declared dead at the scene.
Family Member Speaks Out
Manju Rani’s brother spoke to the media, stating:
“Her neighbour called me and said there was an altercation, and then her son took her, he took mother to the pond and killed her. He was physically stronger than her—she couldn’t fight back. When I reached, I saw him submerged, standing in the water while his mother was beneath him.”
He also added that Mimodweep had been acting strangely in recent days but had no history of addiction or mental illness.
Police Investigation Underway, Motive Still Unknown
The Lala police have arrested Mimodweep Nath and launched an investigation into the incident. So far, the motive behind this horrifying act remains unclear, and the accused continues to remain silent during questioning.
