The 2nd phase of Lok Sabha Election took place today, 26 April. Voting has started for 88 constituencies in the 2nd phase of the 18th Lok Sabha elections across 13 states and union territories. Manipur, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Assam, West Bengal witnessed high voter turnout of over 60% till 3 pm.

Prime Minister emphasized the importance of high voter turnout, especially urged the young and women voters to participate.
Congress leaders, including Malikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi, also urged people to vote, stating that this election was crucial to “save the constitution.”
Voting began at 7 am and will continue until 5 pm, with an additional hour for those already in line.

As of 1 pm, the overall voter turnout for the 88 seats stood at 39.1%, with states like Karnataka at 38.2%, Tripura at 54.98%, Kerala at 38.01%, Bihar at 35.73%, and Uttar Pradesh at 35.75%.

There are a total of 15.88 crore eligible voters, including 8.08 crore men, 7.8 crore women, and 5,929 third-gender electors. Among them, 3.28 crore young voters aged 20-29, including 34.8 lakh first-time voters.
Phase 1, which took place on April 19, saw a turnout of around 62%. Counting for all phases will held on June 4.

Seats up for election on April 26 include all 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, and others across various states.
Key candidates in Phase 2 include Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, Tejasvi Surya, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Hema Malini, Arun Govil, and Om Birla.
Over 16 lakh polling officials are deployed across 1.67 lakh polling stations, with webcasting in over 50% of stations and micro-observers in all.
Overall, voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats will occur in seven phases, with the last phase scheduled for June 1. The BJP-led NDA aims for 400 seats, while the opposition, led by the Congress, seeks to challenge them under the banner of the INDIA bloc.
Vote counting for all phases will take place on June 4.
