Landslide Halt train service in Dima Hasao: Guwahati–Silchar Express Stranded at Lumding

Train operations along the Mupa and Diyakhu hill sections in Assam’s Dima Hasao district came to a complete halt on July 6 due to fresh landslide triggered by continuous rainfall.
The disruption has halt rail connectivity in the region, particularly affecting the Guwahati–Silchar Express (Train No. 15615). The train which is currently stranded at Lumding Railway Station.

In the monsoon season, landslides have made the hill route unsafe for travel. Which forcing railway authorities to suspend operations for several hours. According to reports, restoration teams have been deployed in the affected area to remove debris and carry out necessary repairs on the affected tracks. However, there is no official announcement that when train services will resume.

The suspension of the train has caused major inconvenience as hundreds of passengers stuck at Lumding Station. The passengers are waiting for train resumption.

Senior officials of the Lumding Railway Division have reached the landslide-affected areas to assess the damage and supervise restoration efforts.

CPRO of Northeast Railway Frontier stated, “This is the same location where landslide has taken place earlier. Once again the railway tracked has blocked due to landslide. Efforts are going on to resume train service by 11am today.”

The Railway authorities have urged passengers to remain calm. While restoration is ongoing, no confirmed timeline has been given for the reopening of the Dima Hasao hill section.
