Kolkata’s Jadavpur University Professor Mainak Pal’s dead body found in a lodge of Uttarakhand on Friday. His dead body was found with cuts on his hand and throat slit said police.
On Friday, when he didn’t receive call from his home, under panic his family calls to hotel reception, prompting the staff members to break the door of his room.
Upon opening the door, the staff member found blood-spattered on the floor and found Jadavpur University Professor Mainak Pal’s body lying in the bathroom with deep cuts on his hand and neck. Immediately, hotel management informed police about the matter.
Initial police inquiry revealed that Professor Pal had travelled to Uttarakhand with his two friends on a short trip, while his friends continued their trip, Pal decided to come on Kolkata. He was to return Kolkata on Bagh Express on Friday night but he found in distract condition. He used to live with his wife, parents and daughter.
An Autopsy was conducted on Saturday and the process to bring his body to Kolkata has begun.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University Bhaskar Gupta said, “We are shocked and saddened by Mainak’s passing away. We have lost not only a professor but also a brilliant researcher, teacher. I don’t understand how this happened.”
Registrar of Jadavpur University Snehamanju Basu said, “I did not know anything officially until Sunday morning. But I heard that Prof. Mainak Pal has passed away.”
Professor Dipayan Patnayak, head of philosophy department, said, “Mainak was a brilliant professor. I couldn’t believe it after hearing the incident on Saturday afternoon. All of us students, teachers are shocked.” Expressing grief, JUTA General Secretary Professor Parthapratim Roy said, “Mainak was associated with teaching here since 2022. We were familiar. We are devastated after this news. We are saddened.”
