A murder took place on Silchar-Aizawl Road near Kabuganj, under Dholai Police Station. A 27 years old Youth stabbed to death in front of S Cube Bar near Paikpar. The incident scene is located just off National High Way 306 (Silchar-Aizawl) Road.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 8:30 pm. The victim identified as Rakib, a driver by profession and resident of Kabuganj.
The incident occurred when Rakib went to a bar for a drink and a heated altercation broke out inside the bar involving a group of youths. Eyewitnesses said that a group of young men inside the bar were involved in a heated argument. Rakib was not part of the original fight but became involved after one of the men, identified as Mongol from Bhaga Bazar, allegedly began harassing him while drunk.
Rakib called his vehicle owner, Nazu Laskar, and told him that a fight had broken out involving two people—Sumit from Matinagar and Mongol—and now Mongol was behaving aggressively towards him. Nazu arrived at the bar quickly and tried to calm the situation. He even slapped Mongol and asked the bar owner to throw the group out. Mongol and his friends then left the bar.
However, about 30 minutes later, Mongol returned in a Bolero vehicle with others. When Rakib stepped out of the bar to buy something from a nearby paan shop, Mongol ran up to him and stabbed him in the throat with a steel knife. Rakib collapsed and was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Nazu Laskar, who witnessed the scene stated reporter, “Rakib was not even a part of the main fight, while he was quietly sitting and drinking. The fight was between Sumit and Mongol’s group. Rakib was innocent and just got caught in the middle. I warned him to get into the car when Mongol returned, but it was too late.”
Following the murder, Cachar police immediately investigate and by 11 pm they arrested Mogol from Bhaga Bazar.
Police sources suspected that the fight was related to drugs deal. It is believed that Sumit had brought Rakib to the bar to help finalize a narcotics transaction. The disagreement may have led to the violent attack.
Police have taken Mongol into Police custody and launched an investigation. The accused, Mongol, is a resident of Bon village in Bhaga Bazar and is the son of two known drug mafia suspects—Abidur Rahman and Bilkis Begum. He also runs a car wash and decoration business near the Hindustan Petroleum pump in Bhaga Bazar.
