IMD Predicts Heatwaves, Rainfall and Hailstorm in these state in next 2 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued predicted heatwaves across east and peninsular India for the next two days. Additionally, the IMD also made rainfall predictions and thunderstorms in the northeast region until April 9.

Prolonged Heat Waves Expected

According to weather department IMD India is expected prolonged heatwaves, particularly from the month April to June. The heatwave condition is anticipated to be most severe in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry from April 5 to 9. Maximum temperatures are likely to surpass the 98th percentile in isolated areas of Karnataka & Rayalaseema, south Kerala, and Tamil Nadu till Sunday.

Precautions Advised

To mitigate the effects of heat exposure, IMD advised people for wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose cotton clothes, covering the head, and using a cloth, hat, or umbrella for protection.

Rainfall Predictions

The IMD also highlights cyclonic circulations over north Bangladesh and east Assam, impacting the weather in the region. This influence is expected to bring widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh. Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to experience scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) in the next seven days. Additionally, isolated rainfall is forecasted over Rajasthan on April 10-11, IMD said today.

Normal Rainfall Expected

Director General of Meteorology at IMD, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, stated that normal rainfall is anticipated across the country during April.

IMD Alerts Hailstorm in Various state

IMD also alerts some states for Hailstorm. India Meteorological Department alerts Odisha expected isolated hailstorm likely to be on 07th April, 2024, East Madhya Pradesh on 7th – 10th April, 2024, Vidarbha on 7th – 9th April, 2024. IMD also alerts Isolated hailstorm likely over Chhattisgarh on 7th & 8th April, 2024.

Sweltering Heat in Several States

Numerous states in central India and certain regions in the south are already experiencing maximum temperatures ranging from 40 to 42ยฐC. In Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Telangana, temperatures have significantly exceeded seasonal averages this year. Areas most prone to increased heatwaves include Gujarat, Maharashtra, North Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, according to IMD.
