The Assam Flood Crisis continues to intensify. The situation remains critical as of July 22. According to official data, over 7.27 lakh people are now affected. The floods have spread across 25 districts, causing widespread damage.
Many regions are still under water. In fact, 1,700 villages and 74 revenue circles remain affected. Districts like Sivasagar, Jorhat, Dhemaji, and Cachar are among the worst hit. As a result, daily life has come to a standstill in several areas. Moreover, the human toll is rising. The death count has reached 31. Sivasagar alone reported the highest number of fatalities. At the same time, three people are still missing. Authorities are continuing search operations.
Damage, Relief Efforts and Ongoing Rescue
The Assam Flood Crisis has also caused major property damage. A total of 401 houses have been completely destroyed. In addition, 1,848 homes have suffered partial damage. Families have lost shelter, and many are now depending on relief camps.
To respond quickly, the government has set up 95 relief camps. These camps are currently sheltering over 18,000 people. Alongside this, 469 relief distribution centres are active. They are providing food, drinking water, and other essential supplies.
Meanwhile, the impact on livestock is also severe. Reports confirm that 185 animals have died or been washed away. This includes large animals, small livestock, and poultry. Therefore, rural livelihoods have taken a big hit.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing. State agencies are working non-stop. They are focusing on evacuation, food supply, and medical support. In addition, authorities are closely monitoring the situation as water levels remain high.
Even though efforts are in full swing, challenges continue. Floodwaters still cover many areas. However, officials are prepared to scale up operations if needed. The Assam Flood Crisis remains a major concern. People across the state are hoping for relief as the situation evolves day by day.
